Antique English (Birmingham) solid 18k yellow gold signet ring with carnelian face with the letter 'D' engraved in gothic script. This ring is dated 1850, however was gifted from Connie in 1926 as engraved on the inside of the ring.
Signet rings have been a popular piece of jewelry since the Mesopotamian era (3200 BC), and throughout history have been used to seal letters with the mark of the sender. Although rarely used for that today they continue to be viewed as the mark of a gentleman (or woman!).
