A fab mid-century brooch featuring an intriguing lavendar quartz oval cabochon cut stone. This exceptional stone is beautifully set in 18k bright yellow gold. Made in Finland in 1959.

Lavender quartz is a rare stone among the quartz family, Mined directly from host rock, Lavender Quartz comes from the Boquira Mine in the municipality (município) of Oliveira dos Brejinhos in the northern Brazilian state of Bahia. The Borquria Mine opened in 1956 and is currently no longer producing.

Wings are ornamented in bright shades of red, blues, pink, coral, and purple done in the plique-à-jour (translucent enamel) technique. The articulated moving wings are so finely made that they are able to stand in place on their own. Our hearts fluttered when this special specimen flew into the store!
Singed 'Birks' and dates from the 1970's. Enamel work is in impeccable condition.
